Description
Navy blue, wool jacket with collar and lapels. There are 4 brass buttons on the right side flap of the jacket and there are 4 corresponding button holes on the left. There is a pleated breast pocket with a cover flap held closed by a single button, on either side of the jacket. Above the left breast pocket is a badge and 6 medal bars. The badge which is above the bars, is an RAF badge. It depicts the letters RAF inside a laurel wreath, underneath a crown, flanked by wings. Underneath the badge in 2 rows: their colour sequences and corresponding are: purple/white diagonal stripes (?), navy blue, red, light blue stripes (1939-45 Star), blue/white/red/white/blue (?), green/black/green/orange/black/green (defence medal), red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red (War medal), white/black/white (NZ War medal). Below the right breast pocket is a horizontal slit opening for another pocket. There are 2 side pockets, one on either side of the jacket. Each has a cover flap held in place by a single button. Each of the buttons on the jacket has a crown on it, flanked by the letters NZ, above a bird in flight.

At the top of each sleeve, on the shoulder, is a badge that reads: NEW ZEALAND. The badge on the right shoulder has blue embroidery and the badge on the left shoulder has white embroidery. On the cuff of each sleeve are 2 stripes with the horizontal colour sequence of: black/white/black (top) and black/blue/black (bottom). At the back of the jacket is a slit running vertically from the bottom to the waist. Running along the waistline is a blue wool belt, attached at the back. The belt has a strap with 3 sets of 2 holes and a brass buckle. There is a snap on the strap, the corresponding snap near the buckle is missing. Inside the jacket is a blue cotton lining and the sleeves of the jacket are lined with a cream-coloured cotton lining. There is an inside breast pocket on either side. At the bottom of the right flap is a pleated pocket made from the lining fabric. At the neck there is a tab used to hang the jacket.
