Description
Air force jacket, navy blue wool worsted and royal blue cotton denim, waist-fitting. Shirt type collar. 6 black buttons down the front. Hidden buttons by denim seam and jacket facing. Left and right breast pockets with central pleat on the pocket and scalloped button down flap. Waistflap extends 210 mm from the left side to form a belt which buckles on the right side of the tunic. The back of the tunic is pleated around the waist. The shoulders have permanent epaulettes. There are 2 stripes on the epaulette. They are black, white and black. Both stripes are the same. There are 2 on each epaulette. On the shoulder is printed 'New Zealand' in white on a black badge. This is sewn on.
The badge over the left breast pocket is a wing with a black centre piece. On this centre piece is WAG surrounded by a gold laurel branch. The metal strip under this badge reads from left to right, Unknown 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. The WAG stands for Wireless Op- Air Gunner. All the facings - the inside neck and the waist - are lined with cotton denim. There are left and right denim breast pockets inside the jacket. The manufacturer's white label is sewn on the right breast internal pocket. There are 3 button holes on the denim waistband for securing the pants to the jacket.
