Description
Road sign, kauri wood, rectangular shaped. It was probably originally painted white with black lettering. All the white paint has worn off the sign leaving only the black lettering. The sign reads: CLIVE Rd. The letters have been stencilled on the timber with a black bitumen based paint. The timber is well weathered. There are the remains of a bolt fixed close to the top edge of the board in the centre. There is a second hole close to the bottom centre of the board. From the back of the board can be seen the remains of a bolt stuck in the hole. The top edge and bottom edge of the sign have been bevelled for 12 mm.
Clive Road runs around the North East side of Mount Eden linking up with Mountain Road. This is an area of Auckland developed around 1900. This may well be the original street sign.
