Description
The certificate has a coloured stamp of the Legion of Merit medal embossed at the top centre of the page (a white star with purple trim on top of a green wreath. In the centre is a blue circle with 13 white stars. The medal hangs from a purple ribbon). The certificate states:
The United States of America. To all who shall see these presents, greeting: This is to certify that the President of the United States of America in accordance with the order issued by General George Washington at Headquarters, Newburgh, New York, on August 7, 1782, and pursuant to Act of Congress, has awarded the LEGION OF MERIT Degree of Legionaire to Group Captain Geoffrey Newland Roberts, Royal New Zealand Air Force for extraordinary fidelity and exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service, given under my hand in the city of Washington this 19th day of April 1945.
The certificate is signed James Forrestal (Secretary of the Navy) and Harry Truman (Commander in Chief). The text is printed in black with personal details such as name and date, written in italics. There is a 5-pointed star in each corner.
