Description
Model aircraft, Solent Flying Boat "Ararangi" ZK-AMM, Teal , New Zealand. A four-engine aircraft with double propellers, that is 4 blades per propeller. A single float is located towards the extremity of each wing. The aeroplane has an upper and a lower deck. The upper fuselage is painted white and the lower fuselage silver. A teal blue stripe separates the upper and lower decks. This blue stripe runs the length of the aircraft. In profile, there are 9 windows along the upper deck and 10 windows along the lower deck. The cockpit has 6 windows in a wrap around configuration. The aircraft's name "Ararangi" is written in red on both sides of the aeroplane just behind the cockpit and on the same level as the cockpit windows. The tail markings comprise a broad blue band across the fin with dark blue parallel lines on either edge of the blue band. On the band are the letters - TEAL - and the logo. A small NZ flag is positioned over the letter T in TEAL. Underneath TEAL is written New Zealand. Written on the tail lateral fins is ZK-AMM, on either side on the upper surface. On the underside of the lateral fin is TEAL on the right side and ZK-AMM in red on the left side.
The model aircraft is mounted for presentation. There is a silver, U-shaped bracket with 2 screws holding the aeroplane, and the other side of the 'U' bracket is secured to a silver plate. This plate is seated on a wooden base which has angled sides and is painted black.
On the front of the wooden base, is a silver presentation plaque which reads: "R.M.A. Ararangi, Presented to Mr G.N. Roberts by Short Bros & Harland Ltd." On the bottom of the base is a white felt pad.
