Description
-1 Phonograph machine, metal, fixed to a metal plate which, in turn, is screwed to the lid of a wooden box. The phonograph reproduces music from a cylinder which is placed on a drum on the machine. The mechanism is similar to a clock. The winding of the key loads a spring which transfers motion through a series of cogs and gearing to an axle which has 3 metal balls. These balls or weights are finely balanced, and the motion is transferred to a string-pulley arrangement. This turns the drum on which the cylinder record is placed. The mechanism also turns a threaded rod on which the recording arm and needle are positioned. As the rod turns, the needle moves lengthways across the surface of the cylinder. -2 Key - metal key with 10 mm of thread. The wings of the key are 72 mm (span) x L 40 mm. -3 Lid - wooden. -4 Box - the base is fitted with wooden corner blocks with rubber mountings screwed on to the base through the blocks. One block and rubber mounting is missing. A partial picture of
