Description
This pedascope was used at Smith and Caughys footwear department until April 1963. It had a Department of Health warning on the side, which warned about the dangers of "repeated exposures to X-rays from shoe fitting X-ray plants". 1990.10.1 = Pedascope - foot and X-ray machine shop-fitting equipment. Metal disc with knob in the centre. 1990.10.2 = Pad - Liebel Flarsheim manufactured rubber pad with cord that attaches to the pedascope. 1990.10.3 = Pad - Liebel Flarsheim manufactured rubber pad with cord that attaches to the pedascope.

Warning Department of Health / Repeated exposures to X-rays from shoe fitting X-ray plants / may be harmful, particularly to young children. Therefore in / X-ray examinations for shoe fitting purposes the following pre- / cautions must be observed: / 1. Young children or children of primary school age should / not be exposed to X-rays from this plant. / 2. No X-ray shoe fitting exposure should last longer than / seven seconds. / 3. No person should subject himself to more than three X-ray / shoe fitting exposures in any one day, nor to more than / twelve X-ray shoe fitting exposures in any one year. / 4. Only authorised shoe fitting personnel may operate this / X-ray plant. Customers are not permitted to operate / the X-ray plant.
