Description
Emergency Transmitting Device; radio set AN/CRT-3 consisting of the main unit [T-74/CRT-3]; 2 x balloon canisters; 2 x inflating tubes; 2 x hydrogen canisters; instruction book and a carry bag.
-1 Main unit - T-74/CRT-3
Aluminium, welded, front secured by studs. Air-tight, waterproof. Orange-yellow. Recessed at the back for the crank-handle [GC-18-A], secured by safety wire. On top is the crank-socket, with a screw-in cap; also 2 indicator bulbs and an instruction sticker. A broad strap and buckle are attached to each side. The front has a signal lamp socket at its top with panel underneath containing a 3-position frequency selector switch and a push-button telegraph key. Below that, central, is a round, hinged door secured by a chain and a cotter pin, which has the reel [RL-48] on its inside which holds the antennae assembly [AS-207/CRT-3]; on the outside is a star-shaped wheel that activates a drag brake. To the left of the door is a compartment containing the desiccator, to the right a screw-cap well with the ground-wire bobbin. A wrench, for extra leverage, is attached to the strap.

Sealed cans; tin. With a key on top although not present in either case. The sides covered with a yellow label; instructions in black.

-4=5 Inflating tubes x 2. Aluminium with wood handles. Larger diameter tube with screw-thread at one end, joining the handle with a smaller tube, for insertion into the balloon, emerging on the other side. Heavy paper instruction sheet attached to each by string.

-6=7 Hydrogen generators x 2. M-315-B.
Tin; tall, cylindrical and painted grey. With a key or thumb-screw mechanism at each end. 1 has instructed sheet tied on with string.

-8 Instruction book; "Handbook of Operating Instructions for Radio Set AN/CRT-3".

-9 Bag. BG-155-A.
Prepared canvas; yellow-orange - reinforced by webbing with handles on each side. Hinged top is cased secure by a row of eyelets - 2 heavy-duty buckles protrude through, probably for use with a parachute. Also on top is a raised bubble for extra long components, plus stencilled information. The bag is lined with horse-hair.
