Description
Sextant- Bubble Type AN 5851-1 (with altitude averaging device). Bendix Aviation Corporation. Also purpose-built carry bag.
-1 Sextant. - Manufacturers part no. 3014-1-B; Serial No.AF-43-14627.
Black, crinkle finish or smooth, with large grey rubber eye-piece. Square base with large round structure on the left-hand side - used as a hand grip - which also extends forward with an adjustable at the end. The eye-piece sits in the middle, between this and a tower, also used as a handpiece, on the right which has various function switches and a prism inset on the top, facing forward; the tower has a ring for securement on the inside face. In front of the tower is a grooved and calibrated cylindrical focusing mechanism; there are 2 electrical connections, also at the front, presumably for connection to a battery. The base has 2 instruction plates on 2 sides and a reference plate underneath.

-2 Carry bag - Canvas, green, with leather handles, each split into 2; also leather corner-pieces on the bottom and at the end of the zip. Sealing zip fastener with black plastic/rubber, running over the top - also a steel dog-lead snap-fastener at the top for secure attachment. Purpose-built. Padded sides, with 2 cushions inside; data, painted in white, on 2 sides and one end. "Handle with care. This case contains a precision instrument. Sextant type A-15, Spec. 21292. Remove battery from battery case before storing".
