Description
Metal rectangular meter coloured black. Front of meter is hinged with a circular glass window to view clock face. Front is held in place with a screw clasp. Interior contains metal clock face with red needle above. Metal tabs reading "ON" and "OFF" surrounding the clock face. When turned, these tabs hit a switch, either turning it off or on. Meter is clock driven by an electrically wound spring. At a set time the clock mechanism operates a switch fitted to a 24 hour solar dial. The clock winds itself every 8 hours by means of a small electric motor. These mechanisms were commonly used to switch street lighting on at dusk and off at dawn. This time switch was made in c.1925.
