Description
SONY World Receiver, model ICF-2001. Rectangular unit in black plastic case. Loud speaker enclosed in left front. Controls and panel, including a numeric keypad for direct frequency entry to tune the radio, on front face.
Brief History
Released by Sony in 1980, the ICF-2001 shortwave radio receiver was the first to be controlled by a microprocessor. The radio was intended as a travel portable and could be powered either by batteries or plugged into mains electricity. Also innovative in this size radio was the numeric keypad to enter the desired frequency.
