I've just been given one of these. Looking inside, it consists of a crystal receiver, with switching between medium waves and long waves. There's a pair of trimmer capacitors accessible through holes in the front which act as tuning controls. The knob on the top is just a terminal to attach a long-wire receiving antenna. The jack plug goes into the microphone input of a tape recorder, so whatever the radio jack is receiving, can be recorded. How well it receives will be entirely dependent on the received signal strength as being a crystal set, there is no active amplification of the RF. Furthermore, selectivity will be poor, so in today's crowded bands, results can be expected to be poor. The main difficulty I'll have in trying this will be to get a suitable long-wire antenna, but may give it a go.
