Description
Maori carved tokotoko, ceremonial walking or talking stick. Carved in 1809. Stick has been broken at its mid-point. There is a Tiki carving on either side of the upper most part, where the stick hooks at its top edge. There is an elaborate carved design down the shaft of the stick. The wood has been stained with a dark pigment. Carved into the surface of the tokotoko is the text "1809" and "HGD". The lower part of the stick has the same carved design along the shaft. There is a thimble attached to the bottom of the stick.
