Brief History
Morrison Reel lawn mower, c1950s vintage. This mower is believed to have been used for greenkeeping.

Reel mowers have blades which spin vertically and use a scissoring action to cut the grass. Originally this mower would likely have had a catcher for the grass clippings on the front of the machine.

Morrison Motor Mowers Ltd was established in Hastings, New Zealand in the 1930s by Sidney Morrison, a mechanical engineer. Originally working in his garden shed and garage, Morrison set up a factory in Karamu Road, Hastings to manufacture reel mowers. In 1957 the company was sold to local businessman J.H. Mason, then later to Wright Stephenson Ltd (which became part of Fletcher Challenge Corporation).

Morrison motor mowers are still produced in New Zealand by Morrison Industries.
