Brief History
This Dennis fire engine was the third to last Dennis fire engine imported into New Zealand from England. It was supplied to the Whanganui Fire Board in 1937, and later went on to serve in Waverley in Taranaki from 1960 until 1976. Originally the engine had no hose reel or water tanks, but they were fitted when it moved to the Waverley Brigade. It was donated to MOTAT by the NZ Fire Service (now Fire and Emergency New Zealand) in 1976 after national restructuring.

The Dennis fire engine displays a change in body shape which allowed for greater safety for the firemen on board. It has an extremely large engine and can reach fast speeds.

It has a Dennis chassis, made in England, with a ‘New World’ body added in Wanganui. The body style is so-named because it was first introduced in the U.S.A. This style of body was an improvement on earlier versions because it enabled firemen to sit facing inwards, instead of riding on the outside. This is important when the engine is travelling at speed.
