Description
Jaguar Mark V, Saloon (3.5 litre), 6 cylinder, 4 forward with 1 reverse gears. Top speed: 145 kph (90 mph).
Brief History
The Jaguar Mark V was introduced in 1948. It was marketed as a luxury, top performance family car, designed for cruising at high speed for long periods.
The Jaguar Mark V was available with 2.5 litre or 3.5 litre engines (like this one) and as a 4-door or a 2-door drop head convertible. The convertible version is very rare today. All versions had leather upholstery and walnut trim – this example has been reupholstered in vinyl. Only cars sold in some countries had the leaping jaguar mascot on the front – this one does not.
The Mark V Jaguar was also very reliable. A number were used by the British Police and some clocked up over 320,000 km (200,000 miles).
After nearly 11,500 were built, the Mark V was discontinued in mid-1951 to make way for the Mark VII. There was no Mark VI as Bentley had already released a car of that name in 1946.
