Brief History
The original model Brownie was introduced by the Eastman Kodak Company in 1900, selling in America for $1. It was developed as an inexpensive camera for the amateur photographer, children included, and was simple to use. The camera was essentially a cardboard box with a simple meniscus lens, and it took Kodak roll film. Nearly 200 models were produced over the six decades Brownies were available on the market.
MOTAT’s No 2A Brownie was likely made between 1907 when the model was introduced and 1932 when the winding key was replaced by a knob. The body of No 2A Brownies was made from leather-covered cardboard until 1924 when the card was replaced with metal.
