Brief History
In 1906 American electrical engineer Lee de Forest invented the Audion diode. It was a development on the Fleming valve, both of which acted as radio detectors. DeForest later made improvements to the Audion thus creating the world's first triode in 1908. It was a major development in electronic and radio technology as it was the first electronic amplifier able to amplify incoming radio wave signals.

This DV-2 Audion has a ceramic ‘Isolantite’ base which dates it to around the time of the De Forest company’s reorganisation to the De Forest Radio Company in 1924.
