Book binding press - Double Elephant.
J Greig and Sons Book Press / standing press, late 19th century.
Pressure is applied by means of a platen which is usually powered by turning a screw, first by hand, then with a short bar and, finally, in operations requiring very great pressure, by means of a long pin. The size and weight of this type of press permits exertion of very great pressure.
