Description
RNZAF Battle dress and 5 campaign medals.
There are 5 black buttons down the front of the jacket, on the right jacket flap. On the left jacket flap, on a denim lining, are 5 corresponding button holes. On each shoulder is an epaulette with 2 stripes (black/blue/black). They are attached near the collar with a decorated black button. The button has a crown on it, flanked by the letters NZ, above a bird in flight. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side of the tunic. The pockets have cover flaps with scalloped edges, they are lined with denim and closed with a black button each. In the left breast pocket is a letter (2003.831.1=2).
Above the left breast pocket is a series of 5 medals and a badge. The badge is an embroidered radio operator's badge. It has the letters 'RO' surrounded by a laurel, with a wing on its right side. The colour sequences of the ribbons and their corresponding models are:
Black/yellow/blue/yellow/black with silver rosette (air crew Europe medal and bar).
Green/black/green/orange/green/black/green (Defence Medal).
Red/blue/white/red/white/blue/red with Oak Leaf (War Medal and Bar).
White/black/white (NZ War Medal).
Navy/red/light blue (1939-45 Star).
At the waist is a strap on the left jacket flap and it fits into a silver buckle and wool belt loop on the right side. Sleeve cuffs have crown-shaped overlay. The jacket is pleated at the back at the waist. On the inside, the collar tab, button seams and waist are lined with denim. There is a second strip of denim lining at the waist, it has 3 button holes. There are 2 internal pockets, both made of denim. There is a piece of paper attached to the collar tab. Marked in black pen is: ACC NO: 285/78C.
