Description
Bell Punch taxi meter. The unit consists of a square metal box with a glass panel on the front. The FARE is clearly indicated and marked in Dollars and Cents. A swivel knob on the right turns to change the status from FOR HIRE to HIRED to STOPPED. The knob on the left appears to be a wind-up key for the mechanism, but is not in working order. Aside from the main fare, the front panel also indicates the following from left to right: Extra, Paid Miles, Total Miles and Units. Above the Units is another counter which indicates Trips. At the bottom of the panel is printed in red: "Full Fare by Time & Distance Shown". On the right, towards the rear, is a swivel knob with a threaded opening at one end, possibly for a cable. On the bottom can be seen 3 protruding bolts with a series of different sized washers.
