Description
Cake mixer (Whirl Beeta), water driven food mixer. Mostly cast aluminium and painted on very light green stand and cream "drive unit". Double wire beater on single fitting bayonet connector. Machine would be operated near a water tap to one side of a sink for drainage. Impeller or turbine contained in upper round "drive unit" assembly. The inlet is a material covered rubber hose with push-on tap fitting. The outlet to drain is via the hollow stem of the stand (supporting the "drive unit").
Brief History
This food mixer likely dates to the mid-1940s and was powered by water. Although electricity was available in most New Zealand homes by then, with the notable exception of more remote rural areas, wartime restrictions were still in place and electricity was in short supply.

The ‘Whirl Beeta’ never caught on as it did not work very well because many houses did not have the water pressure needed to make the blade turn quickly enough.
