Description
Stack of Frames by ShieldsUp.

Stack of 3D printed frames. The bottom three frames are red, the top five are dark green and all of the frames are connected. Semi-circular shaped, the frames each have four small knobs along the top edge and a knob at each end. "ShieldsUp.NZ" is printed along the top edge of each frame.
Brief History
Face shields were manufactured throughout New Zealand in 2020 in response to the Level 4 lockdown from 26 March to 28 April 2020, a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The shields were made on 3-D printers using an open-source code developed and supplied by Prusa Research (https://www.prusa3d.com/covid19/). Following on from successful community calls throughout Europe, Tim Carr from MindKits initiated a call to 3-D printers throughout New Zealand which resulted in a positive groundswell of interest and action.
The national call for interest was made on 27 March 2020 and within three days a communication group was coordinated using Slack. By day eight country-wide logistics and distribution networks were established. Using stocks to hand, individuals and maker groups worked to produce shields for use by front line workers.
The Shield Stacks were developed in New Zealand to increase printing efficiency. Multiple shields could be printed at one time and then 'shucked' or 'popped' apart. The innovators involved in ShieldsUp modified the Prusa design a number of times, working on the theory of constant improvements.
