Description
Vehicle Safety Mannequin H Point Model T196.

Part 1: Vehicle Safety Mannequin. Two white fibreglass shells replicate the back of the torso and buttocks. This is attached to a hinged stainless steel frame with bolts which reveal themselves on the fibreglass exterior. The metal frame has a long vertical pipe which runs higher than the fibreglass shells, as well as two vertical bars lower down. On the frame is a blue maker's plate with white text, "J826 MAY 87 / SAE / THREE DIMENSIONAL H-POINT SAFETY MACHINE NO. T196 / This measuring device is constructed in full accordance / with the Society of Automotive Engineers Standard / SAE J826 specifications and drawings. / Available from: / SAE / 400 Commonwealth Drive / Warrendale, PA 15096-001 / 412/776-4841". Beneath this is a clear sticker with black text, "CALIBRATED 3/13/97". On the other side of the frame is another maker's plate, silver with a red text, "TECHNOSPORTS / PROTOTYPE DESIGN & BUILD / 34005 AUTRY LIVONIA, MICH. 48150 / (313) 261-0060 / (313) 261-6340 (FAX)".

The hinged point between the torso and the buttocks can be adjusted. Text on the hinge reads, "BACK ANGLE" with an arrow between the two words which points upwards and can be adjusted against a measurement dial. Below this dial is a long horizontal, square rod which runs the length of the thighs. A series of small holes runs along the rod. The rod is attached to a triangular base plate which is bolted to the fibreglass thighs. A short piece of grey wire is attached to this rod and to the fibreglass shell. On either side of this rod are two circular metal plates with a central, circular piece of metal rising upwards. A bolt is attached to the shell next to one of the circular metal plates.

Part 2: Detachable bar. Long bar with a small, protruding piece at one end. The other end is pointed.

Part 3: Thigh support. T-bar, square shaped metal rod. Small holes are placed up the vertical piece as well as measurements in increments of inches. Along the horizontal bar are measurements in increments of inches.

Parts 4 and 5: Two stainless steel legs which can be attached the the frame held within the fibreglass shells. A stainless steel foot and shoe sole are connected with a circular plate hinge to a vertical leg.

The hinge can be adjusted to change the angle of the foot and has a downwards arrow with the text, "FOOT / ANGLE". A thin piece of coiled wire is attached to the foot and connects with a key ring to a metal pin which is slotted through a hole on the hinged ankle joint.

The vertical leg can be slightly adjusted in height, this is done with a circular knob which can move the leg up and down according to the measurements at the base of the leg. Above this are some small knobs with thin pieces of wire attached. A thin piece of coiled wire is attached midway up the leg on which hangs a key ring with a metal pin.

At the top of the leg is another hinged piece which can be adjusted according to the measurements in increments of centimetres. The hinge forms a square hole in which the thigh support can be inserted. "KNEE ANGLE" is etched into the top of the leg.

Parts 6 and 7: Small, stainless steel weight. The weight is dome shaped, curving inwards at the top with a small hook placed at the peak. Each weight is etched with a serial number. The first weight has, "M13", the second has, "M14".

Parts 8 and 9: Medium sized stainless steel weight. The weight is hourglass shaped, curving inwards at the middle. Each weight is etched with a serial number. The first weight has, "M11", the second has, "M12".

Parts 10 to 19: Larger, disc-shaped weights with a small cut out in the centre. Each weight is etched with a serial number. These are, "M1", "M2", "M3", "M4", "M5", "M6", "M7", "M8", "M9", "M10".

Part 20: Blue, square, steel cabinet which holds the various parts of the vehicle safety mannequin. The cabinet is placed on castors. The door is placed at the front of the cabinet and is opened and shut with a key. Along the top edge of the door is white label with blue text. On the right is "SAE / INTERNATIONAL", on the left is "TECHNOSPORTS / PROTOTYPE DESIGN & BUILD / (313) 261-0060". On the top right corner of the cabinet frame is a silver, reflective sticker with red text: "TECHNOSPORTS / PROTOTYPE DESIGN & BUILD / 34005 AUTRY, LIVONIA, MI 48150 / (313) 261-0060".

Part 21: Blue and black USB device containing a seatbelt installation video. Attached to the USB is a sticker with the text, "Seatlbelt instruction video".

Part 22: Two keys to open the cabinet.

Part 23 and 24: Two small, metal washers.

Part 25: Metal attachment. Small, circular metal plate with toothed edge and protroduing screw.
