Description
"25 years coming up time for a stocktaking amazing development what else can I say it runs the world, little known about it, especially new development influence, Japanese, Spectra - 70 - ICL System IV. Wang. Russian computers. Retrospective, literature only IBM. Known by pejoratives, second hand. Outline what it is really like. Very little critical, not negative, difficult because of H/S tradeoff. Almost all internal, not going to admit mistakes. IBM hardware and software often mixed. Separate OS from hardware. How it differs fro other machines nowadays. Try to keep at a high readable level. Only spent 6 years keeping abreast, much before and after. Cant [sic] know everything, especially what went on inside IBM. Hope not too many errors, regard as preliminary, hope to produce fuller version later. Outside may have wrong end of stick also." --Summary
