Description
"John Womersley started his career in the 1920s and 1930s in applied mathematics and moved into managerial positions during World War II, just before the development of computers started in Great Britain (see figure 1). Although he was a key player in the history of computing in the 1940s and the 1950s, historians have mostly focused on the following generations of innovators...Womersley's career, which we outline in this article reflected the major trends in British applied mathematics, statistics and automated computation in the middle decades of the 20th century" --From introduction.
