Description
Letters exchanged between MacKay and Moore which are arranged chronologically. Predominantly discussing the establishment of company New Zealand Airways Limited and a planned trip to be made by pilots Robert Moore and Cecil Pashley to New Zealand. Moore first writes of his interest and training in aviation and encourages MacKay to consider a New Zealand venture on behalf of Moore and Pashley (provides references for assurance); he writes of Gnat Aero Company and encloses clippings on the Edinburgh Aero Club. Both then go on to discuss the growth of aviation in New Zealand with aero clubs being formed in major cities; the establishment of New Zealand Airways and the need for Moore and Pashley to sign the Memorandum of Association; the suitability of aircraft types that could be resold to aero clubs; securing licenses with aircraft manufacturing companies for New Zealand distribution; competition in the industry from Charles Kingsford Smith; and Moore's planned flight between England to New Zealand (with an intended route plan) with MacKay's thoughts on this flight in a reply.
