Description
Documation Model M200 Card Reader. Large metal rectangular machine, with cream-coloured casing with rounded edges on either side. The object is black with a flat top. On the left edge is a rectangular piece with rounded edges. The front edge of the object is cut off at a diagonal angle. On the right side of the machine is a metal panel with a diagonal slide section. This is the ‘input hopper’, where the punch cards would be placed into the machine. There is a black metal part, composed of two pieces of metal, with four wheels on the bottom [Part 2]. This is placed on top of the punch cards to hold them in place. It glides up and down the slide section. Below this a small half moon has been cut from the metal of the main body of the machine. Underneath this piece is the ‘card feeding mechanism’ which feeds into the left side of the machine where the card is read, and then it is fed out into the ‘output hopper’ on the left of the machine. There is a black metal piece which moves up and down on a spring mechanism. This receives the read cards. At the front of the object on the left side is a control panel with “POWER READ CHECK / PICK CHECK / STACK CHECK / HOPPER CHECK / STOP / RESET” with a red circular button under "STOP" and a green button under "RESET". [Parts 3-4].
At the back of the object is a rectangular metal panel affixed with screws. This can be removed for accessing the interior of the machine. There is an "ON/OFF’ switch in the top left corner. Below this is a square piece of metal mesh. Below this is a white sticker which reads "SYSTEM ENGINEERING LABORATORIES INC. / IDENT NO. 9210-2 Card Reader / S/N 8007080 P550414 / DATE SHIPPED’. Below the panel is a metal maker’s plate which reads ‘MADE IN USA / DOCUMATION / INCORPORATED / PLANT NO 2 / MODEL M200 VAC. 230 START 7.60 A / SERIAL 8007080PR Hz. 50 RUN 1.96 A / US PATENT 3690644 FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING".
On the right of the machine is a white plastic switch with "LAMP TEST" above it. The second switch to the right of a vertical hole in the panel has a metal toggle switch with "SHUT DOWN / MAN AUTO". There is a metal toggle switch below this which reads "MODE / REMOTE / LOCAL". Underneath are four columns of grilles. At the bottom centre of the object there is a three-pronged power supply outlet, and to the right is a mint green coloured power outlet. There is no power cord attached to the object. There is a cream coloured canvas cover with black stitching which fits over the object [Part 5].
