"The Dominion Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society has authorized the publication of this textbook to suit the special needs of New Zealand in the training of our Red Cross V.A.D.s in Air Raid Precaution work. The material used is based largely on the publications of the Air Raid Precautions Department of the Ministry of Home Security of Great Britain, and covers briefly the subjects of collective and personal protection, the types of gases, their characteristics, symptoms and treatment. The information is presented in such a way that it is hoped not only Red Cross workers but all those in voluntary organisations undertaking similar work may find it helpful. - preface
