The radiogram is comprised of a radio unit set into an oak cabinet with a hinged lid. At the front of the cabinet, there is a metal plate attached to the upper centre with "LODGE TAIMAU 331/ PRESENTED TO / WORBRO. AR. WHEELER / IN APPRECIATION OF GRATUITOUS SERVICES / AS SECRETARY / 1948-1959" engraved on it. Below this, there upper half of the unit is divided into three sections. The two outer sections are wooden panels attached on hinges which allow the panel to open downwards and form a flat surface. Each has a flower shaped metal handle. Inside, these cupboards, there is a large cavity with central divider. Between the two cupboards, there is a section in which a seven valve radio with glass tuning display is set above four dials. Within the tuning display several frequencies are printed along with "BROADCAST / STATIONS / SHEFFIELD / OFF TONE GRAM VOLUME TUNING". A full width cream-coloured grill cloth which houses a 12-inch Rola speaker is found along the bottom half of the front of the unit.
At the back of the unit, there is an upper wooden panel with circular holes cut in it. Through one of the holes, a blue plate with "TYPE / 7 PP / SERIAL NO. / 14599 / CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH ANY / INTERNAL PART OF THIS MACHINE UNLESS / THE POWER PLUG OR ADAPTOR IS WITH- / DRAWN FROM THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY" printed in white can be seen. The lower half of the back is bare, revealing the speaker and cabling beneath. A red and black sticker with "MODEL / 12/O / ROLA / Manufactured under licence by / Loudspeakers (N.Z.) Ltd. / Wellington. / N.Z." printed on it.
Beneath the lid of the unit, there is a wooden surface with a mustard coloured Collaro record player. The turntable, needle arm and knobs are maroon. In the back left corner of the deck, there is a metal medallion with "PATENTED / COLLARO / RC 457 / MADE IN ENGLAND" embossed. On the end of the needle arm, "COLLARO / ENGLAND" is embossed. Inside the case, there is a stamp on the wood which reads "[...] / A A / J.P.I.C. / UN20 / MADE IN JAPAN"

Brief History
This radiogram is an example of the large furniture style radios that became popular in the early-mid 20th century. These items filled the role many people now use televisions for, a large entertainment console for use in the living room. This particular unit comes with AM radio and gramophone functionality.
