Description
White Cap flash for Aircrew under training. White material with machine-sewn edges. On the back there are two metal snaps on either side which would clip into place on a forage cap. There is a band of white material sewn to the bottom edge. There is lettering in black pen on the bottom right hand corner which reads "b b b".

The cap flash was issued to Air Force aircrew volunteers undergoing basic training. On completion of their “trade” course - (pilot, observer (navigator), or wireless operator/gunner), the flash was removed and their rank rose from LAC (or perhaps acting Corporal) to Sergeant. This cap flash was presented to NZ 42699 Gilbert Ward who served on 75 NZ squadron RAF.
