Healing 'Shogun' racing bicycle in original blue colour. Frame labelled "HEALING" on both sides of horizontal section of frame and "SHOGUN" on both sides of diagonal section of frame. Labelled "colorado" on black handlebars. Labelled "SHOGUN" on vertical with shield logo above. Additional stickers on vertical from top: one printed "CHAMPION / NO. 5 / CHROME MOLYBOEN STEEL / SEAMLESS P.G. TUBES / TANGE INDUSTRIES, LTD /." Brief History
From 1967 Healing Industries Limited started manufacturing bicycles, with their ten-speed being the most popular New Zealand made bicycle.
The donor purchased this ‘Shogun’ bicycle for cycling to University in Auckland in the 1970s and then used it regularly when living in California in the 1980s. There are still Californian licensing stickers attached to the frame from registering it during this period.
Healing ceased manufacturing bicycles in the 1980s when import taxes eased, making it easier to bring overseas manufactured bicycles into the country, and the company was sold to Masport.
