Presentation casing made of see-through plastic with information sheet inside. Red print on white paper. Nickel medal inside.
Brief History
This medal was issued in 1971 to honour the memory of Richard Pearse, a farmer and self-taught engineer and inventor. During 1902-1911 Pearse constructed and flew aircraft at Waitohi (near Timaru) in the South Island of New Zealand. Working entirely on his own and with basic materials and equipment, Pearse was, if not the first, among the earliest humans in the world to fly a heavier-than-air machine. He patented revolutionary inventions such as ailerons, a variable pitch airscrew and an adjustable angle of thrust aero engine.
