Description
A black plastic ruler-shaped object with a channel in the middle. This is a contact lens diameter gauge, or V-gauge. The object is slightly “V” shaped – the channel is wider at the top and gradually narrows. There is a scale on the right side of the object which has been engraved by hand into the plastic. The scale starts from 9.0 at the bottom and ascends in increments of 0.1mm up to 12.0. The contact lens would be placed into the channel and moved along until it aligned with one of the measurements. The diameter for the contact lens could then be easily read.
This gauge was likely hand-made by Hirstlens engineers using a file and hacksaw in circa 1958.
