Oilskin raincoat - same manufacturer as another [1979.17.5] which has been identified as motorman's uniform issue but slightly different details in trenchcoat styling. Black oilskin, trenchcoat style with corduroy collar and short cape over shoulders. Originally 7 buttons in front: three on left and four on right (additional under collar) but one button from right-hand side is missing. Four buttonholes on left; none on right so the buttons on this side are dummies to give a double-breasted look. One dome below front buttons. One dome on collar. One dome on each cuff. Two side pockets - slits in oilskin give access to internal patch pockets. No belt loops; however, there is an unattached belt (silver buckle (rusting) and oilskin material) with a label with the same accession number - 82/0930 9C - attached to it (not known whether this is the original belt or whether the connection was assumed). Back slit to raincoat on back seam with reinforcement stitching at top of slit and dome halfway down. Four rivetted 'holes' under each arm for ventilation. Eight rivetted 'holes' under cape for ventilation. Red and green maker's label stitched inside the collar reads "MADE IN N.Z. / WATERPROOF / CLOTHING / MAKERS OF / RELAX / CAMP EQUIPMENT / RELAX REGD". "9C" has been written in ink on the label and a grosgrain label has been sewn in underneath on which the accession number "82/0930" is written in ink. Plain black lining.
