Description
Industrial Robot, model IRB6, Series 1 made by ASEA in 1975. Orange metal robotic arm fixed to square metal pedestal with almost complete 360 degree swivel. Bolt holes on corners bottom of pedestal, designed to mount robot to either floor or ceiling or onto a raised height working platform. Three ETS PAVEX electronic motors made by CEM fitted onto pedestal, two fitted vertically and one fitted horizontally to arm, these motors moved the arm in either a vertical or forward and backward motion. Robot operates via two cords which originate from the control unit and plugs into the robot via a screw-plate socket on one side of pedestal base.
Used for welding and lining interior of aircraft engine components, purchased second hand in the 1990s by donor and then retired from use in 2012. No documented previous use.

Brief History
Designed for packing, polishing, welding, grading and transportation, the industrial robot ASEA IRB was developed in Sweden during the early 1970s. This example was operated in an Auckland-based aviation engineering company from 1992 until 2012 when it was retired.
