Description
Control unit for industrial robot, model IRB6, Series 1 made by ASEA (now ABB). Dark blue metal cabinet with two doors, single chrome key lock door handle on each door. Unit mounted on four red swivel caster wheels. Front of control unit has small transparent plastic door to access control buttons and switches "FAULT INDICATION" (4 red buttons), "OPERATING MODE" (4 yellow buttons), "PROGRAM SELECTION" (4 yellow buttons and 4 blue knobs), "MAINS ON" (1 button), "RESET EMERGENCY STOP" (1 yellow button), "OPERATION" (1 yellow button) STANDBYE (1 yellow button), "SYNCHRONISING" (1 red button), PROGRAM START (1 green button), "PROGRAM STOP" (1 red button), MAIN SWITCH (1 blue switch) and EMERGENCY STOP (1 red button). Unidentified red button and one blue knob positioned on upper left side of front of control unit are unnamed but have symbols. Front control panel also has dark blue rectangular slot to insert operator's control console which has long power cord that plugs into one of two sockets on right side of unit. Right side of unit has two round sockets (one fitted with socket cover, one not) labelled "PROGRAMME UNIT / PROGRAMENHET" and "TAPE RECORDER / BANDSPELARE". Beside Tape Recorder socket is one black power cord. Beside Programme Unit is one dark grey and one cream cord tied together which terminate at a connector console that attaches to robot. Power cords and control unit cord hang on integrated hook on right side of cabinet above sockets. Left proper side of cabinet has two unlabeled access panels, one covered in silver duct tape and the other screwed shut.

Handheld metal dark blue and silver ASEA control console/programme unit sits in slot on front of cabinet behind transparent door. Console unit has integrated metal carry handle at top. Cord from console unit plugs into one of the side sockets "Programme Unit".

Interior of cabinet is cooled by fan units made by ebm-papst and mounted to ceiling of cabinet. The cabinet divided in half vertically with power fittings on one side and racks holding circuit boards on the other side.

Used for welding and lining interior of aircraft engine components, purchased second hand in the 1990s by donor and then retired from use in 2012. No documented previous use.
