Description
Coconut shell base and hinged lid contains puppet inside. Coconut exterior has squared bottom, smooth sides, lid is hinged at back with hook and screw closure on front. Puppet inside is made of carved wood and springs: body is a large spring with carved wooden piece set within making shoulders and head; arms are smaller springs with carved wooden piece set within to make hands and wrists; puppet is wearing a white linen shirt; head is painted brown with facial features in black and pink, 'hair' is black with red flower depicted on right side of head; puppet is holding a red triangular cotton flag labelled in white "POP UP TO / FIJI / FLY / TEAL" with the Maroro logo in black at bottom.

This object is said to have been made by a local Fijian for a Tasman Empire Airways Pilot who often performed 'remarkable deeds' for them and other locals.
