Description
'In the Beginning' is a complete history of locomotives during the most important period, the formative years. In addition a history of railway construction, tenders and contracts has been included in the text. The concept of Julius Vogel's Public Works Scheme is for the first time illustrated in detail. The book clearly shows how each region had their own fledgling railway, how these railways grew, and which were the first to connect. The contentious parts have been debated in public, and the text has been vetted y some of the most experienced railway researchers in the country. 'In the Beginning' is a substantial volume of new, previously unpublished information, complemented with many photographs from the period.
